On Monday morning, June 18, Stadler was detained in Munich. He is suspected of fraud and involvement in an advertising campaign with false information. Law enforcement officers have already conducted searches in the office and at the top manager's home. In addition, investigative actions have been initiated against 19 other people who are also considered involved in "dieselgate."
The Volkswagen story, concerning the deliberate understating of harmful emissions indicators for diesel engines, became public in the fall of 2015. For the German company, this scandal resulted in large fines, a change of management, and the recall of millions of cars worldwide.
