In August 2026, almost 57% of new passenger cars sold in Ukraine were equipped with petrol or diesel engines. A year earlier, traditional powertrains accounted for about 49% of the market. This is reported by Ukrautoprom.

Petrol cars remained the most popular in August 2026

The share of petrol cars increased from 32.3% to 39.1% over the year. The leader in this segment was Skoda Octavia. Diesel cars also strengthened their position: their share grew from 16.2% to 17.5%, with Renault Duster becoming the most popular model.

Among cars with internal combustion engines and electrified models, demand for hybrids grew the most noticeably. In August, they accounted for 32.9% of new passenger car sales, compared to 23.4% a year earlier. Toyota RAV4 took first place among hybrids.

"Cars with traditional engines covered almost 57% of the new passenger car market," notes author Oleksii Astapov.

Electric cars lost part of the Ukrainian market in August

The share of fully electric cars nearly tripled over the year, dropping from 27.9% to 10.2%. The most popular new electric car in August was the BYD Sea Lion 06.

Leaders of the Ukrainian market by powertrain type:

  • petrol — Skoda Octavia;

  • hybrid — Toyota RAV4;

  • diesel — Renault Duster;

  • electric — BYD Sea Lion 06;

  • LPG — Hyundai Tucson.

Cars with gas-balloon equipment remained the smallest market segment. As in August 2025, they accounted for less than 1% of new passenger car sales.
