Classic hydromechanical automatic transmissions of certain Toyota, Lexus, Mazda and Mitsubishi models are capable of covering over 300,000 km with regular maintenance. The Autoportal experts' rating includes models with Aisin gearboxes and Mazda SkyActiv-Drive transmissions.

1. Toyota Camry with U760E and Aisin UB80 automatics

The XV50 generation sedan of 2011-2017 with a 2.5-liter engine was equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission U760E. The Toyota Camry XV70, produced since 2017, received an eight-speed Aisin UB80 automatic, also known as AWF8G30.

2. Toyota RAV4 with six-speed and eight-speed automatic transmissions

The fourth-generation crossover CA40 of 2012-2018 was equipped with a six-speed gearbox U760E. The gasoline Toyota RAV4 of the XA50 generation with a 2.5-liter engine received an eight-speed Aisin UB80E transmission.

3. Lexus RX with reinforced Aisin automatic

The rating includes the restyled Lexus RX of the third generation AL10 of 2012-2015 and the fourth-generation model AL20 of 2015-2022. The RX 350 versions with gasoline V6 engines are equipped with reinforced eight-speed Aisin automatics of the UA80E series.

4. Mazda 6 with proprietary SkyActiv-Drive gearbox

The third-generation Mazda 6 GJ/GL of 2012-2024 was equipped with six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatics. Naturally aspirated versions with 2.0 and 2.5-liter engines received the FW6A-EL gearbox, while turbocharged modifications were equipped with the reinforced GW6A-EL.

5. Mitsubishi Outlander with durable TF-80SC transmission

The most load-resistant versions are the Mitsubishi Outlander with a 3.0-liter V6. These are the Outlander XL of 2006-2012 and Outlander GF of 2012-2021 with a six-speed hydromechanical Aisin TF-80SC gearbox, which has indices F6AJA or W6AJA.

Eight-speed Aisin automatics and Mazda gearboxes contaminate the oil with friction dust due to early torque converter lockup. Without timely maintenance, deposits clog the valve body channels and damage solenoids, causing jerks.

Sudden starts are especially dangerous for the Toyota Camry 3.5 of 2006-2017 with the U660E gearbox. High loads can accelerate wear of the housing bearing and planetary mechanism.
