According to the published research data, Japanese automakers took the highest positions in the reliability ranking. The first place went to the Lexus brand — its score was 98 points out of a possible 100. The next two positions were shared by Suzuki and Subaru, each receiving 93 points. Fourth was Toyota with a result of 91 points, and the fifth step was shared with it by the Spanish manufacturer CUPRA, which also scored 91 points.
The top ten most reliable brands also included several other manufacturers:
- KIA — 89 points
- Smart — 89 points
- Honda — 89 points
- Mitsubishi — 89 points
- Nissan — 87 points
- Mazda — 87 points
It is noteworthy that only two European companies are represented in the top 10 — CUPRA and Smart. All the rest are Asian brands, among which there are especially many Japanese ones, which actually dominate this list.
The lowest indicator in the list turned out to be for the British Land Rover — only 64 points. Somewhat better results were demonstrated by the French Citroën and Peugeot, as well as the German Opel, which, however, is under the control of the French concern PSA.

In addition, it turned out that for 39% of buyers, reliability is the main criterion when choosing a car. Among other significant factors are dimensions and engine type (16%), as well as economy, cost, fuel type, appearance, and brand reputation.
In addition to evaluating brands, OCU also compiled a list of the most reliable models available on the European market. It included:
- Fiat Panda (2012-)
- Suzuki Ignis (2017-)
- Lexus NX (2014-2021)
- Tesla Model Y (2021-)
- BMW i3 (2014-2023)
- Ford Kuga (2019-)
- Mitsubishi Outlander (2013-2022)
- Audi A8 (2018-) — with a petrol engine
- VW T-Cross (2018-)
- Mazda CX-5 (2017-)
- Suzuki S-Cross/SX4 (2013-2021)
- Audi Q5 (2016-) — with a diesel engine
- BMW 2 Series (2013-2021) — with a diesel engine
It is also worth noting that the least problems with breakdowns occurred in hybrids with the HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) system, in which the battery is recharged by the petrol engine while driving.
