Last December, 12.8% more new passenger cars were registered in the EU countries than a year earlier. This is already the fifth consecutive month that the market has shown positive dynamics. However, despite the overall growth, only two of the four key markets in the region managed to boast positive results.

The automotive markets of Germany and Italy ended 2022 with impressive figures, adding 38.1% and 21.0% respectively. In contrast, Spain suffered a significant decline — minus 14.1%, while the French market remained practically at the level of the previous year, losing only 0.1%.

As for the results of the entire 2022, among the leading EU automotive markets, only the German one managed to show growth — plus 1.1%, largely due to a strong December result. The other three markets ended the year with worse indicators than in 2021: Italy recorded the largest drop (-9.7%), followed by France (-7.8%) and Spain (-5.4%).
