A total of 13 cars made it into the ranking – one leader per segment, from subcompacts to premium electric vehicles. Experts considered a 4-year ownership period, as well as an average mileage of 11,000-20,000 km (the exact value varies by segment: for city cars, for example, it is 11,000 km, for compact cars and crossovers – 15,000 km, and for premium electric vehicles – 20,000 km). At the same time, when compiling this rating, specialists took into account the specific features of each segment, data on brands and models, and even external factors such as overall economic development (of countries, the world), new laws and regulations (including those related to incentives for electric vehicles and various bans on fuel-powered cars), as well as market and consumer trends.

As a result, the following results were obtained (the percentages indicated are the residual value of the car after 4 years):
Most liquid cars 2021
- electric vehicles up to 40,000 euros: Mini Cooper SE (59.63%);
- electric vehicles from 40,000 euros: Tesla Model S Long Range (61.24%);
- city cars: Hyundai i10 1.2 (56.86%)
- subcompact cars: Dacia Sandero Stepway TCe 90 (66.02%);
- compact cars/golf class: VW Golf 1.5 TSI OPF (53.73%);
- mid-size cars: Skoda Superb Combi 2.0 TSI 4x4 DSG (49.81%);
- business class cars: BMW 540i xDrive AT (44.44%);
- premium class cars: Mercedes S 400 d 4matic L 9G-TRONIC (48.62%);
- sports cars: Porsche 911 Carrera 4S PDK (57.95%);
- vans: Mercedes V-Class 300 d long 4Matic 9G-TRONIC (56.44%);
- subcompact crossovers: Mazda CX-30 e-Skyactiv G 2.0 M Hybrid (57.50%);
- compact crossovers: Toyota RAV4 2.5 4x2 Hybrid (57.78%);
- SUVs: Range Rover Sport P400 3.0 (50.11%).

As you can see, among all cars, the Dacia/Renault Sandero turned out to be the most liquid – the winner in the subcompact class. The closest similar result is for the leader of the expensive electric vehicle segment, the Tesla Model S Long Range. After four years, both cars will show a residual value of 60%. But those who were least lucky are the business class: if the best car in this segment showed liquidity of 44.44%, then you can imagine what results its competitors show. Of course, this rating is relevant primarily for Germany, but it cannot be said that the Ukrainian market differs radically in this regard – just look at the same Logan (the closest relative of the Sandero), which has been holding the title of the most liquid car for several years. The same can be said about electric vehicles: there is not a single model that has managed to surpass premium Tesla in pricing on the secondary market.
