According to calculations by the analytical blog EV Sales, a total of 2,141,311 purely electric cars were sold worldwide in 2020. At the same time, a 60% share of this number – or 1,274,508 vehicles – fell to the five leading companies/concerns.
The most electric vehicles in 2020 were sold by Tesla – 499,535 units (23% share of the global electric vehicle market). This success was ensured by two "budget" models – the Model 3 sedan and the Model Y crossover.

It is followed by the Chinese concern SAIC, which last year delivered 243,201 electric vehicles to consumers (11% share). It was able to grab a tasty piece of the market thanks to the mega-cheap Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, developed jointly with General Motors. Such an electric car costs about 4,000 dollars in China.

In third place is Volkswagen Group (227,394), in fourth – the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance (172,673), in fifth – another Chinese manufacturer, BYD (131,705).
By the way, in Ukraine recently there has been a decline in demand for electric vehicles. As Autoportal previously wrote, in January 2021, in our country 21% fewer such cars were sold compared to the same indicator last year.
