Vice President of BMW's M division, Peter Quintus, in an interview with the Australian press, stated that automakers will eventually abandon manual and robotic transmissions.
Quintus believes that further improvement of “robotic” gearboxes makes no sense, since modern multi-range “automatics” have become more intelligent and no longer lose to them in shift speed, and robots have no other advantages left.
In addition, the top manager expressed doubt that manual transmissions will be on the list of available options for future high-performance versions of the M3 and M4.
