Ford Transit Tourneo: passenger version of the legendary minivan

Ford Transit Tourneo is a passenger modification of the commercial minivan that has been produced for four decades. The model name consists of two words: "transit," meaning "transportation," and "tourneo," which translates to "intended for travel."

First generation (1965)

The first predecessor of the Transit family appeared in 1965 as a van. It was assembled at the Ford plant in Germany. The model replaced the outdated Ford Thames van. Initially, the vehicle was built on a rear-wheel drive platform, which allowed a wide range of body options — from cargo van and chassis to passenger bus. The Transit was also offered with two wheelbase options: standard and long.

Second generation (1978)

In 1978, the second generation debuted. The car received an updated design inside and out, increased in size, but retained a wide selection of body modifications. Significant changes occurred in the technical part: new, more powerful gasoline and diesel engines appeared, as well as upgraded transmissions.

Third generation (1986)

The third generation, released in 1986, was radically new in terms of exterior design. The key difference was the placement of the windshield and hood at a single angle. The dimensions of the model grew again, and the line of engines and transmissions was updated.

Fourth generation (1994)

The fourth generation came out in 1994. It featured a more modern and streamlined body design. Passenger versions received an air conditioning system, as well as driver and front passenger airbags.

Fifth generation (2000)

The fifth generation was introduced in 2000. The exterior was designed in the new corporate style New Edge, characteristic of the brand's passenger cars, such as the Ford Focus. A revolutionary innovation was the availability of two types of drive — rear and front. The car was also equipped with new gasoline and diesel engines, which were more economical and environmentally friendly. It was in this generation that the separation of modifications into Connect and Tourneo began. In 2001, the model won the title "International Van of the Year."

Sixth generation (2006)

The sixth generation, also the second for Transit Tourneo, appeared in 2006.

Ford Transit Custom (2012)

Under the name Ford Transit Custom, the car was first shown in March 2012 at the Geneva Motor Show. Sales of the production version began in the second half of 2012. In 2013, the model received the title "International Van of the Year."

Version for Ukraine

In Ukraine, this modification appeared in 2007. The car is equipped with a 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel engine, which works in conjunction with a six-speed manual transmission. Drive — front.
