Ford Expedition: prices and specifications

1 generations Country of origin: United States

Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV that the American manufacturer released to replace the outdated Ford Bronco model. The model name translates from English as "expedition."

In 1996, Ford decided to discontinue the Bronco SUV, which had been produced for three decades, and replace it with a more practical and modern vehicle. Engineers developed the new model based on the Ford U platform. Designers focused on practicality: the car received a spacious trunk and the ability to install a third row of seats, while the front bench could accommodate up to nine passengers, including the driver.

The world premiere of the Ford Expedition took place in 1997 at the Detroit Auto Show. Among the model's features was an optional air suspension that automatically changed ground clearance depending on conditions. In 1999, the SUV underwent its first facelift, after which its appearance began to resemble the tenth-generation F-150 pickup.

The second generation Expedition debuted in 2002. The car was built on an updated Ford U platform. In addition to a completely new body and interior design (especially improved noise and vibration insulation), the SUV received a number of technological innovations. It became the first body-on-frame SUV in the world to be equipped with a fully independent front and rear suspension. Moreover, even the base version of the second generation came with three rows of seats, whereas for its predecessor this was an option.

The third, current generation of the Ford Expedition was introduced in 2007 at the Houston Auto Show. The model is based on the new T1 platform. In addition to the standard version, production began of the extended Expedition EL/Max modification, which received a longer wheelbase and replaced the discontinued full-size Ford Excursion SUV. Both versions are characterized by high load capacity and are often used in the USA for traveling with caravans (caravanning).

In Ukraine, the Ford Expedition is sold only through unofficial dealers. Both standard and extended modifications are available. The car is equipped with a 5.4-liter gasoline engine that works in conjunction with a six-speed automatic transmission. Drive is all-wheel drive.
