Ford Taurus: prices and specifications

1 generations Country of origin: United States

Ford Taurus

Ford Taurus is a full-size sedan that replaced the Ford LTD in the American automaker's lineup. The model name translates from English as "bull".

Development of the car began in 1983 under strict secrecy. The production-ready vehicle was first shown to the public only on the day of its presentation. Jack Telnack worked on the design. Initially, the prototype had a fully glass roof, like the Subaru SVX, but later this idea was abandoned in favor of a traditional all-metal roof.

First generation (1985)

The world premiere took place in 1985 in Los Angeles. The car was based on the front-wheel drive Ford D186 platform and was offered in two body styles: sedan and station wagon. In 1988, production of the station wagon was discontinued due to low sales.

Second generation (1992)

The model entered the market in 1992 with an updated exterior design and a more comfortable interior. The station wagon was reintroduced. The car received a number of technical innovations; in particular, the manufacturer abandoned the manual transmission, leaving only an automatic.

Third generation (1996)

The third generation debuted in 1996 with a completely new streamlined design, a distinctive feature of which was oval headlights. The model was still produced in two body styles and equipped with updated engines and transmissions.

Fourth generation (2000)

The fourth generation was introduced in 2000. The design was again radically changed: streamlined shapes were replaced by sharp angles. The technical "filling" was modernized. It was produced in two body styles — sedan and station wagon.

Fifth generation (revolutionary)

The fifth generation was revolutionary. The Taurus was built on the new D3 platform with increased dimensions, moving it from the mid-size to the full-size class. Production of the station wagon was discontinued. In addition to stylistic changes, the model received many technical innovations, including an optional all-wheel drive system. The design was developed by Jay Mays.

Sixth generation (2009)

The sixth and final generation was introduced in 2009 at the Detroit Auto Show. In 2012, the car underwent a facelift.

In Ukraine, the Ford Taurus is sold only by unofficial dealers. The car is equipped with a 3.5-liter gasoline engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Drive — front.
