And, it must be said, on the market (of new and used cars) there are quite a few models that can boast truly gigantic compartments for luggage. Autoportal has selected exactly ten such cars.

The list is dominated mainly by luxury crossovers, although there are also cheaper models. At the same time, we excluded large vans like VW Multivan and Mercedes V-Class from the selection – only typical passenger cars were taken into account. At the same time, the main criterion was the maximum possible luggage volume without compromising cabin capacity (the car must comfortably accommodate 5 people).

1. Land Rover Discovery – 986 l

The first place in the list was taken by Land Rover Discovery – its luggage compartment holds 986 liters (2068 liters with the rear seats folded), which is more than any crossover or even minivan. At the same time, the car itself is large: its length reaches almost 5 meters, and there is even a 7-seat configuration (then the trunk volume decreases to 172 liters). If you fold the seats in the second row, an “aquarium” with a volume of more than 2 cubic meters and a length of almost 2 meters is formed behind the driver's back. You can easily load a refrigerator!

2. VW Sharan – 955 l

Number two on the list is the VW Sharan. It defended the honor of minivans together with its platform sibling Seat Alhambra. Both cars have a trunk volume of 955 liters (although with the seats folded, the Volkswagen has slightly more free space – 2430 l versus 2297 l). Unfortunately, both models may soon fade into oblivion – they are planned to be discontinued without any prospects of developing “successors”. If someone lacks space in the Sharan or Alhambra, their situation will obviously be saved only by minibuses.

3. Range Rover – 900 l

A big surprise on the list is number three, Range Rover. You can “pour” 900 liters into its trunk, and even 2142 liters with the seats folded, which is more than the Discovery. Please note that the latter trunk capacity applies only to the version with an extended wheelbase (with a body length of 5120 mm). In addition, the Range Rover offers exclusivity, refinement, comfort and versatility – but, of course, this has its price.

4. Mercedes GLS – 890 l

Mercedes GLS, figuratively speaking, the S-class in the world of crossovers, can also boast a spacious cargo area. It is even larger than the long-wheelbase Range Rover (5.2 m), although it has a slightly smaller trunk – 890 liters. But if you fold the rear seats, the trunk increases to an impressive 2,400 liters. By the way, this is the largest SUV in the Mercedes lineup, which is available only with V6 engines and above.

5. Audi Q7 – 865 l

The top five cars with the largest trunks also includes Audi Q7, but only taking into account the 5-seat version (in the 7-seat version, two additional seats take up a lot of space). The trunk volume of the Q7 is 865 liters, and with the seats removed – 2050 liters. In the case of the most popular version (50 TDI, i.e. with a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine producing 286 hp), the Q7 can be loaded with 665 kg.

6. Land Rover Defender – 857 l

Sixth on the list is the third Land Rover model – Defender. Its body is shorter than other models of this brand (length less than 4.8 m, with a spare wheel – 5 m), but the trunk is huge. Its capacity is 857 l, with the seats folded – 1946 liters. There is also another advantage here – the floor of the compartment is finished with a special wear-resistant material, so you don't have to be careful when loading something heavy and bulky. Despite the narrow loading opening, access to the trunk is excellent, and with the seats folded, the floor remains perfectly flat.

7. Renault Lodgy – 827 l

If someone needs a huge trunk and doesn't want to spend a lot of money, then they will surely be interested in the Renault Lodgy, whose trunk holds 827 liters, and after folding the second-row seats and removing the third-row seats – a record 2617 l.

8. Kia Sorento – 821 l

The eighth place on the list was taken by the new Kia Sorento – this car has just changed its generation. The crossover has changed both under the body and outside, adopting the character of a large American SUV. The trunk capacity of the new Sorento is 821 liters and 2011 liters with the seats folded. However, these data apply only to the 2.2-liter diesel version; the hybrid modification (1.6 turbo, plus an electric motor) received a slightly smaller trunk – 813 liters (1996 liters with the seats folded).

9. Volkswagen Touareg – 810 l

Volkswagen Touareg – an amazing car. Externally, it doesn't look that large, but its trunk volume is impressive – 810 liters (1800 with the seats lowered). The current generation of the Touareg has been sold since 2019, it is available with six-cylinder engines (3.0 TFSI / 340 hp, 3.0 TDI / 231 or 286 hp), as well as a V8 TDI engine with 422 hp. At the same time, like its predecessors, this car offers the highest level of practicality, convenience and comfort.

10. SsangYong Rexton – 784 l

The list of ten cars with the largest trunks is closed by a real exotic – the SsangYong Rexton crossover. As with some other models in the TOP-10 rating, the large trunk applies only to 5-seat versions – its volume is 784 l (1977 l with the seats folded). The car is good off-road, but on asphalt it, unfortunately, does not drive as smoothly as one would like (in terms of driving characteristics, the Rexton cannot compete with European counterparts).
