It would seem that everyone knows: in winter you need to use non-freezing fluid. But in practice, even experienced drivers make mistakes. Often the cause is incorrect seasonal fluid changes, saving on quality, or even a simple distrust of the weather forecast. As a result, in the morning, getting ready for work, you notice that the windshield washer does not work. The most vulnerable points:
  • washer in the tank - the main fluid reservoir;
  • washer in the tubes - thin hoses through which fluid flows to the nozzles;
  • washer nozzles - small holes that freeze easily even in light frost;
  • feed motor - can overheat if run "dry".
The stronger the frost and the worse the fluid, the faster everything freezes.

Step 5: Blow out the tubes and nozzles

Sometimes the fluid has already thawed in the tank, but there is still ice in the hoses. Then you can carefully disconnect the tubes and blow them out with a hairdryer or warm air. For the nozzles, a thin needle helps - but be careful not to damage the sprayer. If you have a household hairdryer, carefully direct it at the tank and tubes. Do not overheat - this is important. The ice should not melt abruptly, otherwise the plastic may be damaged.

The same methods will help here: heat, patience, and care. The most important thing is not to turn on the washer until you are completely sure that the entire system is working again. If possible, free access to the tubes and carefully disconnect them. Sometimes it is enough to remove part of the hood protection and direct a warm air flow at the hoses. In the case of nozzles, you can use a simple method: a lighter or a heating pad. Slightly heat the nozzle area - and the ice inside will thaw.

How to avoid freezing in the future

If there is a lot of fluid, you can disconnect the supply hose from the bottom of the tank and drain it into a container.
