The large station wagon was equipped with a 3.0-liter engine from the BMW 3-Series Touring with six cylinders, which underwent modernization. The unit with two turbochargers was fitted with new software, and the cooling system was also refined. As a result, the engine power increased to 462 horsepower. The same unit on the factory M340i wagon produces 375 horsepower.

The engine works in conjunction with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which is a joint development with ZF, and the xDrive all-wheel drive system. With such an engine, the maximum speed of the wagon is 300 km per hour. Thus, the Alpina B3 is one of the fastest production wagons in the world.

The average fuel consumption of the car is 11.1 liters per 100 km. From the regular M340i wagon, the new Alpina differs in a different body kit and a new exhaust system with four pipes. Customers can choose between 19- or 20-inch wheels.
