But Elon Musk doesn't think so, and he presented a new additional package for the Model S with 682 hp, for only $13,000. The package got a peculiar name – «Ludicrous Mode». This is not a joke or an anecdote, but a quite official name.
However, for Tesla, this is quite normal, remember the Insane Mode of these cars, in which the Model S sedan accelerated from 0 to 90 km/h in 3.2 seconds? Therefore, the new Ludicrous mode should be perceived normally. The main thing, however, is not the name; the old Tesla P90D improved with such a package will accelerate the same as the dual-motor Model S P85D. The acceleration indicator with the new firmware will be 2.8 seconds.
For the upgrade to «Ludicrous mode», you will need to modernize the motor from 85 kWh to 90 kWh, for $3,000. Improving the batteries will cost another $10,000. As a result, the range will increase by 30 km, up to 450 km. But the top speed will remain at the same level, as it is forcibly limited to 280 km/h.
In «Ludicrous Mode», the Model S will be close in dynamics to the Porsche 911 Turbo S. And this is considering the greater weight and worse aerodynamics.
