The US Patent Office has published images of a new type of external airbag developed by Mercedes-Benz.
The innovative airbag is designed to protect pedestrians from contact with the front pillars and the edges of the windshield in the event of a collision. Simultaneously with the deployment of the airbags, the active hood is slightly raised to minimize the consequences of the impact.
A few years ago, Volvo introduced its own type of pedestrian airbag, equipping the V40 hatchback with an under-hood cushion that covers the lower part of the windshield.
