"Vettel will sooner or later get behind the wheel of a red car," - such a statement was made by the head of Ferrari. Given the ambitious and persistent nature of the Italian, one can assume that this will happen sooner rather than later. To be more precise, Vettel will be able to try on the red overalls already at the end of the 2012 season, when his long-term agreement with Red Bull expires.
Vettel himself is not against such a turn in his career. He admitted that he would not refuse a place in the legendary Italian team. "Whatever words other drivers may utter, there is no racer in the world who would reject an invitation from Ferrari," Vettel noted. "For any racing driver, racing for the Scuderia is the ultimate desire." However, Adrian Newey, who created championship-winning cars for Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, disagrees with the opinion of the newly crowned champion. As it turned out, Luca di Montezemolo also tried to lure him over. But the proud Briton remained loyal to Red Bull, although Montezemolo, following a long Italian tradition, surely made him an offer that is hard to refuse.
However, over three decades in Formula 1, Adrian Newey has earned not only the fame of an aerodynamic genius but also a solid fortune estimated at 90 million euros. These funds allow him to choose the team where he feels most comfortable. In his case, such a team remains Red Bull. But we should not forget that Luca di Montezemolo has always known how to get his way. Red Bull pays Newey 8 million euros a year, while Montezemolo is surely ready to offer a larger sum. The only question is at what price Newey will agree to move?
