Audi 5000: the North American version of the European sedan

The 5000 name was used for the North American versions of the Audi 100 and Audi 200. The author of the photos does not specify the exact model year or modification of the car spotted in Kyiv.
According to the data he provides, the petrol versions were equipped with inline five-cylinder engines, including turbocharged ones. Depending on the version, the top speed was 175–200 km/h, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h took approximately 9–12 seconds.
Audi five-cylinder engines: why this design was chosen

It was the Audi 100 C2 that started the history of the brand's petrol five-cylinder engines. Its 2144 cc engine produced 136 hp, and deliveries of the 100 5E version began in March 1977.
According to Audi's explanation, the engineers also considered a six-cylinder unit, but rejected it due to limited space and unfavorable weight distribution. The five-cylinder engine was created on the basis of the four-cylinder EA 827 family.

A separate version was the Audi 5000 S turbo. According to the manufacturer's archival data, 18,180 such cars were built from August 1980 to August 1982. The American turbo engine had a power output of 133 hp and was combined exclusively with an automatic transmission.
