It would seem, why: there are no high loads on the engine, no high speeds of the car. That's exactly it! - there is no regular movement and stable cooling. Therefore, especially in hot weather, in the city you can see more and more cars with steam coming from under the hood.

It's good if the car "boiled over" near civilization and the driver was able to take the right measures to preserve the engine, which is not always the case. It is much worse if a serious breakdown happens far from home and especially from a car service center.

There can be several main reasons for "boiling over":

· violation of heat exchange of the coolant

· violation of circulation in the engine cooling system circuit

· drop in coolant flow

The heat exchanger - the radiator - is responsible for dissipating excess heat from the internal combustion engine.

There are two types of clogging of radiators in a liquid cooling system:

- in the first case, the core cells are clogged with particles, for example, wear products, corrosion, fibers, and scale from the cooling system, which impede coolant circulation. The negative impact of blockages on cooling system components does not end there.

- another type of radiator contamination is external clogging. If the radiator air ducts are clogged, so much so that seeds can germinate there, it is very difficult to avoid overheating and boiling over in city driving conditions.

Combined contamination of the car radiator is also possible.

The main source of fluid circulation disruption is the jamming of the cooling system thermostat in the closed position. In this case, the heated fluid circulates through the internal circuit of the cooling jacket and does not enter the radiator.

The water pump is responsible for the flow and circulation of fluid in the car's cooling system. If the water pump is faulty, the car engine quickly overheats and boils over.

Obvious problems in the cooling system are easy to fix. For example, when the radiator air ducts are clogged, a simple cleaning or flushing can solve the problem. And adding coolant to the system to the required level eliminates the lack of fluid.

The most serious cooling system failure is a faulty water pump, because it is the one that "drives" the fluid through the system through the thermostat and radiator. Among the symptoms of a water pump failure is increased noise during pump operation, caused by bearing wear. This can be facilitated by coolant getting inside the pump.

According to statistics, about 90% of water pumps have to be replaced due to coolant leaks. Small particles - wear products, corrosion, fibers, scale, etc. - circulate with the coolant throughout the system, and when they get on the pump seal, they destroy the oil seal. When the seal begins to leak fluid, it seeps into the bearing and washes out the lubricant, thereby causing its destruction.

A water pump failure can also occur due to prolonged load, for example, with excessive tension of the drive belt.

The correct choice of individual components is decisive for the quality of water pumps.

German engineers of the company Wulf Gaertner Autoparts AG identified the key causes of failures of original water pumps and set about solving them.

The issue of the limited service life of water pumps was solved through the use of four-contact roller and angular contact ball bearings designed for high loads, as well as through the installation of wear-resistant oil seals.

In particular, MEYLE-HD water pumps are equipped with silicon carbide seals. Unlike pure carbon, usually used in products of other manufacturers, the oil seals of improved pumps have significantly higher strength and wear resistance.

The friction pair made of silicon carbide is more resistant to abrasive wear, and the secondary gasket made of peroxide-cured hydrogenated butadiene-nitrile rubber (HNBR) gives the pump greater resistance to high temperatures and atmospheric factors. T

he grease embedded in the bearings from a world-leading manufacturer has excellent tribological and anti-corrosion properties, as well as resistance to the effects of coolant.

This approach made it possible to eliminate potential coolant leakage in MEYLE-HD pumps, as well as the occurrence of noise.

The cause of a car water pump failure can be not only the quality of its execution, but also the coolant used. With poor maintenance of the cooling system, erosion of the impeller or pump chamber is possible. Components subjected to erosion can reduce the coolant flow up to the occurrence of engine overheating. Wulf Gaertner Autoparts AG recommends using MEYLE coolant and observing the ratio of antifreeze and distilled water mixture components.

As a result of design improvements in MEYLE-HD water pumps, the need for frequent access to the unit and the need for its maintenance are minimized.

For greater reliability of the cooling system, thermostats with an extended service life are available in the MEYLE-HD line. Their advantages are increased wall and shape thickness, the use of high-strength polymer, threaded inserts (instead of self-tapping connections), high-precision sealing rings, and delivery complete with all necessary gaskets and fasteners.
