Toyota Aqua 2022 moved to the TNGA-B platform, like the new Yaris. The hatchback's design remains recognizable but has become more elegant and streamlined. In addition, its wheelbase has been increased by 50 mm – to 2600 mm.
The increased dimensions have expanded the interior space. Moreover, the cabin now features a virtual instrument panel and a large 10.5-inch multimedia touchscreen.
As before, the Toyota Prius C/Aqua hybrid is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor. Specifications have not yet been disclosed, but the related Yaris with the same powertrain has a combined output of 116 hp. The claimed fuel consumption is 2.8 L/100 km.
In addition, the new Toyota Aqua features an innovative bipolar nickel-metal hydride battery – its capacity is twice that of the previous generation model. By the way, there is a function to power electrical equipment or even an entire house from the battery. All-wheel drive is also offered for an additional cost.
You can buy a Toyota hybrid in Japan starting at 1.98 million yen ($18,000) for the front-wheel-drive version and from 2.6 million yen ($23,600) for the all-wheel-drive version. The hatchback is also offered for lease via an electronic subscription for $178 per month. Soon, the new Toyota Prius C will begin to be exported to other countries.
