The debut of the BMW X8 has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic: instead of the end of this year, the premiere should be expected in early 2022. Among the direct competitors of the new model are Audi Q8, Aston Martin DBX and Lamborghini Urus.

The model is conceived as a more dynamic variation on the theme of BMW X7. The crossover has a noticeably more sloping roof and a window line with a curve. Spy shots also reveal unusual two-tier headlights.

The BMW X8 2022 lineup will include versions for five and seven seats. Inside, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and the same touchscreen for the multimedia system will be installed.

Photo spies managed to capture the plug-in hybrid BMW X8: the combination of a three-liter turbo-six and an electric motor will produce about 400 hp. In addition, there are plans for a version with a 4.4-liter biturbo V8 with 625 hp, borrowed from the BMW M5 Competition.

Later, the X8 itself will also receive an M modification. It is predicted to have the same 4.4-liter V8 engine, but paired with an electric unit. The total output is expected to be around 740–750 hp.
