Externally, the new Golf is easiest to distinguish from the previous one by its front optics. From now on, the most mass-produced car in Volkswagen's history is equipped only with LED optics in one of three variants. The base version has eight diode elements and halogen turn signals. One step up is a version with 11 diodes. And the top modification IQ Light is adaptive matrix optics with 22 diodes, which can even turn off segments of the light beam so as not to blind oncoming drivers.
The new Golf has slightly increased in size. The car has become 3 cm longer and 1.5 cm wider than its predecessor. At the same time, the height has decreased by 3.5 cm. Now the overall length of the hatchback is 4824 mm, width is 1800 mm, and height is 1456 millimeters. The wheelbase remains the same at 2636 millimeters.
The new Golf will be offered in as many as 13 modifications. The engine range includes a new family of 1.0- and 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol TSI engines, as well as a new turbocharged TDI diesel with a displacement of 1.5 liters, which will replace the current 1.6-liter units. All versions can be combined with both a manual gearbox and a DSG robot.
In addition to the traditional diesel and petrol engines of the TDI and TSI families, versions with a combined power plant will also be offered - a closed hybrid eHybrid and a plug-in modification GTE.
In addition, the Golf will receive a new family of eTSI engines, which are so-called mild hybrids with an additional 48-volt on-board network. A TGI modification running on methane will also be available.
In the interior of the new hatchback, there are a minimum of buttons and mechanical switches. Most equipment can be controlled using the large touchscreen of the media system. In addition, the car received a digital instrument panel, which is visually combined into a single block with the display, as well as ambient lighting, the color of which can change.
The hatchback will be offered in four fixed trim levels: Golf, Life, Style, and R-Line. Moreover, the last two have the same equipment and differ only in the exterior styling package.
