Tesla Model Y borrowed the already existing chassis from Tesla Model 3. The new model received two electric motors and will be offered with battery packs of various capacities. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 3.5 seconds (top Performance version). The range is 480 km (for the Long Range version). The maximum speed is 240 km/h.

The crossover's design resembles the appearance of the Model 3. The Model Y received traditional side mirrors instead of cameras. Also, Tesla engineers decided to abandon the use of the signature rear doors, which the company calls "falcon wings." According to Elon Musk, such a solution complicates the production process of the model. The drag coefficient is 0.32.

In addition to the standard version, the crossover will be available in a seven-seat configuration. The interior features a large 15-inch screen that controls most functions. The driver has access to advanced safety systems and an autonomous driving function.

Customers will be offered four modifications of the crossover: Standard Range, Long Range, Dual Motor AWD, and Performance. Sales of the new model will begin in autumn 2020. However, the base modification of the electric car will become available for purchase only in 2021.

Pre-orders for the new model have already started in the USA. Prices for the electric car start at $39,000. Top versions will cost $60,000.
