The crossover is built on the lightweight Skyactiv Vehicle Architecture platform, which underpins the new-generation Mazda3. The car's length is 4395 mm, width is 1795 mm, and the wheelbase is 2655 mm.

According to preliminary data, the Mazda CX-30 lineup will include gasoline and diesel engines paired with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The crossover will be offered with an all-wheel drive system with dynamic torque distribution between the axles. All gasoline engines will operate on a "mild hybrid" scheme — in conjunction with a compact electric motor powered by a 24-volt onboard system.

In addition, the new platform implies the use of SkyActive-X family engines. For example, the "three-door" will be offered with a two-liter 180-horsepower gasoline unit, where the fuel-air mixture can ignite in the cylinder during compression, as happens in diesel power units. At the same time, SkyActive-X engines will use traditional spark plugs, which will be activated under high loads.

The Mazda CX-30 crossover is positioned as a global model. It is expected that the cars will go on sale before the end of 2019.
