The head of the German automotive concern, Herbert Diess, stated that the company's production capacities will allow producing up to 50 million electric vehicles. Agreements have already been signed with battery manufacturers — LG Chem, Samsung, CATL, and SKI.
The key idea of Volkswagen's strategy for electric cars is cost reduction through large-scale production and the use of the universal MEB platform. As an example, Diess cites the future electric Golf: its production costs will decrease by 40%. At the same time, the interior will become more spacious, and the driving range will double.
Large production volumes will keep the price at a minimum level. It is expected that the cost of such a car will not exceed 20,000 euros.
