The proprietary xDrive all-wheel drive system on the new M5 will receive special settings and three separate operating modes: 4WD, 4WD Sport, and 2WD. When activating sport mode, most of the torque will be directed to the rear axle, and when switching to 2WD mode, the car will become fully rear-wheel drive.
Another innovation of the future M5 is an 8-speed automatic transmission, which replaces the seven-speed dual-clutch 'robot'.
The Bavarians have not yet disclosed information about the engine and dynamic characteristics of the sports sedan.
