Volkswagen's chief designer Klaus Bischoff told journalists about the company's intention to release an electric version of the "Beetle". He noted that work on such a car is already actively underway, and the starting point for it was the E-Bugster concept presented earlier (pictured).
It is expected that the electric car based on the Beetle will appear no earlier than 2020. It will be based on the new modular MEB platform, which Volkswagen has already tested on a number of concept electric vehicles, including the recently shown I.D. Buzz.
Bischoff has not yet disclosed any other technical details about the promising new product.
