There are no revolutionary changes in the appearance of the new CX-5; the crossover's design has been kept recognizable. The hood has become slightly longer due to the front pillars shifted backward for improved visibility. A new red body color, Soul Red Crystal, has become available for the model.

In the interior, a new steering wheel and a 7-inch multimedia system screen have appeared, as well as changes to the climate control unit and air vent deflectors.

The expanded options list includes the G-Vectoring Control function already familiar from other models of the company, as well as the most advanced version of the i-Activsense safety system. In addition, the crossover has acquired an electric tailgate drive and a Bose audio system with 10 speakers.

The engine lineup of the new Mazda CX-5 remains unchanged; the crossover is still available with one diesel (2.2 liters) and two gasoline (2 and 2.5 liters) engines. A 6-speed automatic transmission is offered as the gearbox.

The new generation CX-5 is expected to go on sale in the first quarter of next year.
