Nissan Executive Vice President Trevor Mann said that the model may in the future get two versions — a five-door hatchback and a crossover.

The project has not yet received final approval. According to the vice president, the new generation will retain the hatchback body, but in the future the company will likely not stop at just the Leaf.

Nissan is already nearing completion of work on a new version of the Leaf. Its debut is scheduled for August 2015. The car will get batteries with increased capacity, which will increase the range to 201 km.

For the European market, the Leaf is produced at a plant in Sunderland (UK). The model is equipped with an electric motor with a power of 110 hp, accelerating the car to 144 km/h. The range is about 160 km.
