The Volkswagen concern is in no hurry to reveal which platform will underpin its future budget car. However, information has already been released that the basis for the inexpensive model will be the platform of the Chinese Santana. This car, produced in China, is equipped with a pair of naturally aspirated petrol engines — with a displacement of 1.4 liters (90 hp) and 1.6 liters (110 hp).
According to company representatives, the price of the first model of the new brand (which has not yet been named) will not exceed €7,000. However, it is already known that sales will initially be conducted exclusively in the Chinese market. Production will be organized either at the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture or at the facilities of Shanghai Volkswagen.
If the car proves to be in demand and performs well, Volkswagen will consider expanding the geography of supplies to Eastern European countries, the African continent, and South America.
