The Ministry of Infrastructure intends to introduce mandatory technical inspection for passenger cars and trailers in 2019, and for motorcycles — from 2022. At the same time, buses operating on international routes will start undergoing inspections already in 2017, and freight transport and trailers for international traffic — from the current year.

Such a phased plan was developed by the department within the framework of the draft law on harmonizing Ukrainian motor transport legislation with EU norms.

The document introduces an updated procedure for assessing the technical condition of vehicles. If a car is purchased new, the first inspection is proposed to be carried out after 4-5 years of operation. In addition, the ministry plans to establish responsibility of service stations for the quality of inspections performed.

Furthermore, starting from 2020, the department expects to implement the European format of roadside inspections of the technical condition of commercial vehicles.
