According to the new decision of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, if the dimensions or mass of a vehicle exceed the established norms by 2–10%, the cost of travel for trucks and vans on roads will double.
If the excess of mass relative to the passport data is from 10 to 40%, then the toll will be tripled. If the total mass exceeds by more than 40%, drivers will have to pay five times the amount.
Restrictions are also introduced for vehicles weighing over 24 tons and with an axle load of 7 tons: during daytime at temperatures above 28 degrees, the movement of such vehicles will be prohibited. It is worth noting that the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Mykola Azarov, stated that by the end of 2014, all major highways will be equipped with automatic weight control systems.
Currently, such scales are operating in test mode on the "Kyiv–Chop" route, and the results show that more than 80% of freight transport moves with a significant excess of the permissible axle load.
