The European Car of the Year 2027 competition received a fully electric final for the first time. The jury selected seven models without petrol, diesel or hybrid powertrains from an initial list of 38 contenders. This is reported by Carscoops.
Car of the Year 2027: seven contenders for victory

The shortlist, formed by 65 jury members from 25 European countries, includes:
BMW iX3;
Cupra Raval;
Hyundai Ioniq 3;
Kia EV2;
Renault Twingo;
Volkswagen ID Polo;
Volvo EX60.
In November, the cars will be tested at the Stellantis proving ground in Balocco near Milan. The winner will be announced on January 8, 2027, at the Brussels Motor Show.
Electric cars have already won the competition: the Nissan Leaf took first place in 2011, and the Jaguar I-Pace won the award in 2019. However, previously they have never occupied all the places in the final seven.
Car of the Year final: no models from Chinese brands

Chinese brands were represented among the initial candidates, but none made it to the next stage. In particular, the BYD Dolphin G, Denza Z9GT and models from Leapmotor and MG did not make the final.
At the same time, one of the finalists, the Volvo EX60, has a connection to the Chinese auto industry: the brand belongs to the Geely concern. The crossover itself is manufactured in Torslanda, Sweden.
The Volkswagen T-Roc and Skoda Epiq also did not make the seven. The latter is a close relative of the Volkswagen ID Polo, which continues to compete for the award.
