James May has put up for sale his 1974 Triumph Stag MkII, which he drove in the final episode of The Grand Tour. After the African journey, the car was restored by Richard Hammond's workshop The Smallest Cog. This is reported by Carscoops.

In the episode One for the Road, which aired in September 2024, the hosts travelled through Zimbabwe and Botswana. For their last adventure together, each chose a car they had long wanted to own. May settled on a Stag with a 3.0-litre V8.

Before filming, the Triumph had already undergone a restoration. It was somewhat modified for participation in the show, and after the journey was completed it was restored again. The body was repainted in the original Magenta colour.

The car retained its chrome bumpers, mirrors, window frames and door handles. At the same time, May points out minor defects in the chrome: in particular, he believes the handles should be replaced. The interior also shows signs of age.

The Triumph Stag convertible got Bluetooth and kept the V8

Among the features of the car being offered:

  • a speedometer from a first-series Stag;

  • a modern audio system with Bluetooth;

  • 14-inch wheels with Hankook Optimo tyres.

The naturally aspirated 3.0-litre V8 works with a four-speed manual gearbox. Rear-wheel drive.

May admits that this engine has a reputation for being unreliable, but claims that the unit in his Stag ran flawlessly. The price of the car is not given in the article.
