In 1999, when Elon Musk was just beginning his path to success, he received his first large sum of money after selling his startup Zip2 to Compaq. The entrepreneur decided to spend part of these funds on one of the most iconic supercars in history — the McLaren F1. The price of this car at that time was 815 thousand dollars.

This video captures the moment when the supercar is delivered to Musk's home, as well as the businessman's emotions from his first encounter with his new four-wheeled acquisition. It is worth noting that not only the film crew came to share the joy with Elon, but also his then-girlfriend.

Today, the secondary market values the McLaren F1 in the range of 8 to 14.5 million dollars. Such a high cost is associated with the legendary status and limited production run of the model: only 106 units were created, with only 65 of them being road versions. Under the hood of these two-door cars was a 6.0-liter V12 producing 627 horsepower, acceleration to 100 km/h took 2.8 seconds, and the top speed reached 386 km/h. Production of the McLaren F1 continued from 1992 to 1998.
As of today, Elon Musk's fortune is estimated at 195 billion dollars, which is 9.5 billion more than the capital of Amazon head Jeff Bezos, who occupies the second line in the ranking of the richest people on the planet. Such a jump became possible thanks to the growth of Tesla's stock quotes, whose market value is currently about 850 billion dollars.
