The unique two-seater roadster with a hardtop continued the success of the fourth-generation MX-5 model with a fabric roof, which received a similar award in 2015.

The highest rating at the annual international competition is given only to truly outstanding and innovative design developments. As the organizers note, the title of "Best of the Best" is awarded only to those projects that have managed to achieve the perfect combination of functionality, aesthetics, and usability.

The selected products are evaluated for compliance with the highest design standards in their category. The jury consisted of 39 designers, professors, and journalists who selected only 102 winners of "Best of the Best" from more than 5,500 applicants from 54 countries this year. The evaluation took into account innovation, functionality, ergonomics, emotional component, quality, and environmental friendliness.

The first fastback in the KODO style, the MX-5 RF is equipped with a unique powerful folding hardtop, which is distinguished not only by its impressive appearance but also by its lightness, and it folds and unfolds in just 13 seconds.

From the smallest details to advanced SKYACTIV technologies, all elements of the MX-5 RF are carefully crafted to provide an unparalleled driving pleasure and evoke emotions in the spirit of the Jin ba Ittai philosophy — the unity of car and driver. This is what makes the MX-5 a legend and a bestseller among roadsters.

Moreover, this is already the sixth Red Dot award for the Mazda model range created in the KODO design. The first to receive recognition were the Mazda3 and Mazda6 in 2014 and 2013, respectively. Then the Mazda CX-3 and Mazda2 together with the MX-5 were awarded prestigious prizes in 2015.
