The Ukrainian used electric car market already allows you to choose not only between old Nissan Leaf and expensive Tesla. For a budget from $8,500 to $32,000, city hatchbacks, sedans, and crossovers with batteries up to 64 kWh are available. Among the models that Autoportal experts recommend in 2026, the Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, Kia Niro EV, and Renault Zoe stand out.
Which used electric cars should you look for in 2026
When choosing an electric car, age matters more than in the case of a conventional gasoline car. Different years of the same model may receive batteries of different capacities, faster charging, more efficient cabin heating, and a longer range.
“Chasing the cheapest electric car on the secondary market is not always profitable. It is better to pay more for a car with a healthy battery and the required charging speed than to save on purchase and then constantly adjust trips to a limited range,” notes author Oleksiy Astapov.
1. Nissan Leaf II 2018-2021: $11,000-15,500
The second-generation Nissan Leaf remains one of the most affordable ways to switch to an electric car. Optimal are cars from 2018-2021 with a 40 kWh battery. For regular long trips, the Leaf Plus with 62 kWh is more interesting.
The main thing during inspection is not the mileage, but the condition of the battery. Due to the lack of liquid cooling of the battery, two Leafs of the same year can differ significantly in residual capacity.
2. Tesla Model 3 2019-2021: $15,500-24,000
The Model 3 costs more, but offers a different level of range and charging speed. The most affordable Standard Range from early years can be found for about $15,500-18,000.
It is especially worth looking at cars from the end of 2020 and 2021. After the update, Tesla installed a heat pump that helps use battery energy more efficiently in cold weather.
3. Tesla Model Y 2020-2022: $23,000-32,000
For buyers who need an electric crossover, the Model Y is the most expensive option in this top five. Early cars from 2020-2022 have already significantly lost in price compared to new ones.
Rear-wheel drive versions can be found for $23,000-25,000. An all-wheel drive Long Range in good condition will cost about $28,000-32,000.
4. Kia Niro EV 2019-2021: $16,000-21,000
The Kia Niro EV is interesting primarily in the version with a 64 kWh battery. It combines a practical crossover body with a large range and is well suited for those who do not want to depend on charging during every long trip.
Modifications with 39 kWh are cheaper and are found from about $15,000-16,000. For cars with a large battery, they usually ask about $18,000-20,000.
5. Renault Zoe 2017-2020: $8,500-13,000
The lowest entry threshold is offered by the Renault Zoe. But early cars with a 22 kWh battery in 2026 are already difficult to recommend as universal transport.
It is more rational to look for Z.E. 40 from 2017-2018 for about $8,500-10,500. Even more interesting is the Z.E. 50 from the end of 2019-2020, for which you will have to pay about $11,500-13,000. For such a car, CCS support is desirable.
