Back in 2015, the Turkish side bought a license to use the Swedish platform, but only recently President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed the formation of a special association that will be engaged in the creation of the so-called "people's car".
Five local companies will be involved in the project: Anadolu Group, BMC, Kıraça Holding, Turkcell and Zorlu Holding. At the same time, attracting foreign automakers to cooperate is not planned at the moment.
The first concept of the future car will be shown to the public in 2019, and the launch of the serial version of the national car is scheduled for 2021.
