Volkswagen, which held the first place last year, sold 5.16 million cars in the first six months of this year. Toyota's figure was 5.13 million vehicles, while General Motors ended the half-year with a result of 4.7 million units.

The combined sales of Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi increased by 7%, whereas the growth of the VW Group was 0.8%, and Toyota's was 2.7%.

The success of Renault and Nissan, which hold significant stakes in each other's capital, is largely explained by the fact that Mitsubishi Motors joined the alliance last year. In addition, since the beginning of 2017, Renault has been reflecting the data of the Russian AvtoVAZ in its reporting.
