Honda Accord: prices and specifications

12 generations Country of origin: Japan

The business-class sedan or station wagon Honda Accord gained popularity in Ukraine due to the excellent performance of the engine and suspension. Also, many buyers are attracted by the fact that the car has rich equipment and a spacious interior. Production of the Honda Accord began back in 1977. Today, you can purchase the eighth generation of the Japanese sedan. Official dealers offer in Ukraine the Honda Accord with gasoline engines ranging from 2 to 2.4 liters. They can be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic with manual shift function.

History

The first Honda Accord appeared in 1976. Initially, the car was produced as a hatchback.

A year later, in 1977, the Japanese offered consumers a 4-door Accord sedan. Until 1978, the model was produced with only one powertrain – a 1.6-liter gasoline engine. Later, a 1.8-liter engine was added. In 1979, Honda began producing the Accord with an automatic transmission (3-speed). In total, over 4 years of production, 1 million units of the Honda Accord I were produced.

The second generation Accord II debuted in 1981. The model underwent a number of exterior changes. Engines – gasoline 1.6 (90 hp) and 1.8 (97 hp). In 1982, production of the Accord began in the USA (Ohio). In 1983, Honda began installing a 4-speed automatic transmission on the model.

The third generation of the Honda Accord saw the light in 1985. The car was available with sedan and station wagon bodies. The station wagon was a shooting brake body style, reminiscent of a 3-door wagon. This version, called Aerodeck, also received the fashionable pop-up headlights of the time. The third generation Accord featured new modern engines – gasoline 1.8 (130 hp) and 2.0 DOHC (160 hp).

The fourth generation appeared in 1989. The model featured a state-of-the-art front double-wishbone suspension and a rear-wheel steering system. In addition to the sedan and Aerodeck wagon, the Accord IV received another body style – a 2-door coupe. The car was offered with 5 gasoline engines ranging from 1.8 L to 2.2 L with power from 90 hp to 150 hp.

The fifth generation Accord debuted in 1993. Interestingly, for the first time, Honda separately created a car for the USA and a model for Europe, which was produced in Britain. For the Honda Accord V, 12 gasoline engines were offered with power from 92 hp to 172 hp (V6 2.7 L engine). In 1996, a turbo diesel from Rover with 105 hp began to be installed on the Accord. In the same year, the model underwent a facelift, and in 1998 it was discontinued.

The sixth generation Accord appeared in 1997. From then on, all versions of the model were equipped with engines featuring the proprietary VTEC system. For Europe, 4 gasoline engines and one turbo diesel were offered. Additionally, for the Type R modification – a 2.2 L gasoline engine with 212 hp. For the USA – also 4 gasoline units, one of which was a 3-liter engine with 200 hp. In Japan – as many as 11 engines, all gasoline (power up to 220 hp). There were three variants of the Accord, depending on the market.

The seventh generation Honda Accord was designed in the early 2000s and launched into production in 2002. In this generation, the Japanese and European versions became almost identical, while the American modification of the Accord differed in increased dimensions and, traditionally, larger engines. The seventh generation Honda Accord was positioned as a sporty sedan with the practicality of a family car. There were three engines – gasoline 2.0 (155 hp) and 2.4 (190 hp), as well as a turbo diesel 2.2 (140 hp). For Japan, an all-wheel drive Accord was produced. In 2003, a station wagon was added to the sedan body. In 2005, the Accord underwent a facelift. The seventh generation Accord is considered the most popular on the global car market.

In 2008, the world premiere of the Honda Accord VIII generation took place. Like its predecessor, the car was offered in two versions – “American” and “European”. In Europe and Ukraine, two engines were offered – gasoline 2.0 and 2.4 with 156 and 200 hp.

The ninth generation Accord debuted in 2012 at the Detroit Auto Show. The model was created as a “global” one – one for all markets. It is sold in 160 countries! In 2013, a hybrid version of the Honda Accord 2013 model year appeared in Japan.

Exterior

The ninth generation Accord changed quite a lot in appearance compared to the 7th and 8th generations. Moreover, Honda decided to create a global product – the model became almost identical for all markets. But it should be noted that the Japanese still focused on Americans, which is noticeable in the design of the model sold in Europe.

The designers tried to preserve the family aggressiveness with family practicality. Whether they succeeded or not is a rhetorical question. Undoubtedly, the Accord began to match other modern Honda models.

From the outside, the car looks quite large, but there are notes of sportiness.

Interior

Inside the Honda Accord 2013, the first thing that catches the eye is the multi-level center console with two separate screens and a climate control system control unit.

The instrument panel may seem simple, but in reality it looks quite elegant. There are many metallic details in the cabin, hinting at the sporty character of the Accord. Nevertheless, the seats have rather weak lateral support, but are wide – people of any build can fit in them.

It is worth noting the ECO button located to the left of the driver, when pressed, the character of the car changes – reactions become smoother, which is designed to improve fuel economy. The instrument panel informs how smoothly the driver is driving – the greener the backlight glow, the more economical.

There is quite a lot of space in the back, both headroom and legroom. Visibility is also excellent thanks to the large glass area.

Engine and Transmission

The ninth generation Accord is available with a 2.4-liter gasoline engine producing 180 hp or a 3.5-liter gasoline engine (280 hp).

The Honda Accord 2013 became the first model of the Japanese brand whose engines are created using Earth Dreams™ technology. It makes engines more economical and environmentally friendly compared to previous generations of units.

The 2.4 version is paired with a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission. The top modification with a 3.5-liter engine comes with a 6-speed automatic.

Safety

The ninth Accord was tested for strength by both the European Euro NCAP committee and the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety IIHS.

In both cases, the model received the highest safety ratings. This is more than enough to be confident in the strength of the body and well-thought-out crumple zones, providing a high level of protection for the driver and passengers.

Note that even in the base configuration, the Honda Accord has 6 airbags and the latest active and passive safety systems.

Features

One of the main advantages of the Accord is its presentability and comfort. This car can be used for daily driving, going to the theater, and taking children to school.

Both a young girl or guy and a mature man or elderly lady will look equally good behind the wheel of a Honda Accord.

Popularity in Ukraine

Almost all generations of the Accord have been and continue to be in demand in Ukraine.

Expressive design, refined handling, and competitive pricing make this model interesting and desirable for a wide range of consumers.

There will always be a buyer for a Honda Accord on the secondary market.

Our Verdict

The Honda Accord is an ideal option for those who want to be stylish on the road. In this car, you can confidently drive on the highway or slowly crawl along cobblestones. Of course, the ground clearance and overhangs clearly will not allow jumping onto curbs. But for these purposes, there are cars of other classes. If compared with competitors, the Accord has a decent list of equipment already in the base configuration.
