When to replace the brake hose
Before starting the replacement, check for the following signs:- Visible cracks or bulges on the rubber;
- Brake fluid leaks at the connection point;
- Loss of pressure in the system (the pedal becomes "spongy");
- The car pulls to one side when braking;
- The hose has softened or started to delaminate.
How to replace the brake hose on a Lanos
The procedure does not require a lift, but it is advisable to have a jack, a stand, and a basic set of tools.Tools:
- Jack and stands;
- Wrenches 10, 11, 17 (may vary by year of manufacture);
- Rags, WD-40;
- New brake hoses;
- Brake fluid (DOT-4);
- Container for draining fluid;
- Transparent tube for bleeding.
Step-by-step instructions:
- Block the wheels and engage the parking brake.
- Jack up the car and remove the wheel on the required side.
- Clean the connections of the hose with the pipes and the caliper (or cylinder).
- Spray the threaded connections with WD-40 and let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Unscrew the brake pipe that goes into the hose (it is more convenient to use a flare nut wrench).
- Unscrew the second end of the hose from the caliper (rear cylinder).
- Remove the retainer or bracket holding the hose to the body (if present).
- Install the new hose in the reverse order.
- Tighten the connections and check for leaks.
- Bleed the brake system: open the bleeder valve, attach the tube, press the pedal until air stops coming out.
- Top up the brake fluid to the required level and check the level after bleeding.
How to replace the brake hose on VAZ 2106 and VAZ 2107
The replacement procedure is very similar to the Lanos, but there are nuances:- The hose connects to the drum cylinders.
- Fastening may be done using a bracket and cotter pin.
- On older cars, the threads are often rusted, be prepared to use WD-40 or heat the connection.
- Remove the wheel.
- Unscrew the brake pipe from the hose.
- Remove the mounting from the body.
- Unscrew the hose from the cylinder.
- Install the new element.
- Bleed the brakes.
How to replace the brake hose on VAZ 2109
On the "nine", the brake system is more modern, but the replacement principle is similar:- Rear hoses go to the drum cylinders.
- Front hoses go to the calipers.
- Aluminum pipes are often found, which are easily damaged - do not overtighten the nuts.
- For bleeding, it is better to work together - one presses the pedal, the other opens the bleeder valve.
Tips for replacement:
- Replace hoses in pairs - on the same axle;
- After replacement, be sure to bleed the brakes until clean fluid without bubbles comes out;
- Use high-quality hoses - from trusted manufacturers;
- Never install damaged or refurbished hoses;
- If you suspect wear on other elements, inspect the lines, fittings, and reservoir.
Now you know how to replace the brake hose on a Lanos, as well as on VAZ 2106, 2107, and 2109. This is not the most complicated procedure, but it requires care and attention to detail. The main thing is not to forget about bleeding the system and checking the fluid level. Remember, your safety on the road depends on the proper functioning of the brake system.
