Hello! We are also planning to drive this route for the first time in our own car. One thing interests us: how difficult is it to go through Russian customs if the car has Spanish plates and is registered to me, a Russian citizen who currently lives in Spain. I would appreciate any advice on the route and recommendations. Another question about fuel: the car is diesel — how is it in Ukraine and Russia, where is the best place to refuel? I hope there will be someone who knows about all these issues. Thank you.
Trip from Ukraine (Lviv) to Russia (Ryazan)

Good afternoon, Marina. To cross the Russian border, you will need the following documents: international passports, car documents, and a "green card" — insurance valid in Russia. If the documents are in order, there should be no problems entering the Russian Federation.
As for the route — here is a link to calculate distances through our service.
With diesel, everything will also be fine: we have it, although its quality is inferior to Spanish, but it's not critical. In Ukraine, it's better to refuel at stations like "UkrTatNafta", Shell, or "KLO" — they are usually sufficient. In Russia, you can choose "Rosneft", TNK, or "Lukoil".
Have a good trip! It will be interesting to read here about your impressions after returning.

Marina, hello. I apologize for the question, but when are you planning a trip to Russia? My wife and I are currently living in Portugal and are also planning a vacation by car to Saratov, approximately from July 10 to August 10. I am currently looking for information on this route. If you are interested, we can discuss it in more detail. My email: [email protected].
I think the trip was a while ago, but for those who are still planning: I drove from Crimea to Ryazan — don't pass by gas stations with normal restrooms (usually these are WOG) and check the navigator more often.

Very interesting. I plan to travel from Crimea to my parents in Ryazan on August 14, 2011. Could you advise which route to choose to make it more convenient? I don't have a navigator. I would also like to know what difficulties one might encounter on the way. The car is a VAZ 21101.
