Help me figure out the choice. I'm interested in everything: advantages and disadvantages, fuel consumption, maintenance and cost of spare parts.
Subaru Forester or Mitsubishi Outlander, (Outlander XL)???

The Forester has a softer suspension, and there are noticeably fewer service issues.
There's no need to spend a long time figuring this out, especially when it comes to new cars. For Subaru, starting from the 2008 model year, the factory policy is that the entire suspension and everything else are no longer covered by warranty. And if you recall that one rear shock absorber for a Forester costs about 800 USD at retail, a lot becomes clear. The Outback is an ordinary consumer bucket that drinks 15 liters per 100 km. It's kind of faceless. But the Forester accelerates from the start like a rocket (a small thing, but nice). So think for yourself!
I agree that Subaru is noticeably better. The Outlander is somehow ordinary, and inside it's especially dreary — a real coffin on wheels. The Subaru has both higher comfort and a more pleasant look.
Subaru is a car that is created primarily for the driver. Passengers in it have a hard time. As for the appearance, everything is debatable here. If you put fresh versions of Forester and Outback side by side, a person who doesn't understand models may well confuse them from the side.
I would advise taking the Outlander in black — it looks noticeably more interesting than the Subaru. The car is more spacious, in my opinion, more comfortable, and the gearbox with paddle shifters was a pleasant surprise. The new Outlander has become more solid and presentable, and it gives more emotions than the Subaru. The only thing I didn't like was the interior — it's the same as in the Lancer, but otherwise the car is excellent.
The new Forester's suspension has become noticeably more comfortable than before, while the Outlander's remains one of the stiffest in its class.
Overall, the Outlander looks more prestigious, but the suspension is definitely stiffer than the Forester's, and it accelerates in 10.8 seconds, while the Forester does it in 7.9 seconds (if comparing 2.4 and 2.5 A.T. engines). However, the Subaru is slightly smaller in size, and rear-seat passengers feel that, but it's more powerful. In short, if you need a car for business, take the Outlander, but if it's for everyday use, the Forester is better.
