GPS navigation

November 14, 2010 · A discussion from the forum archive

Who has which GPS navigator? Does someone use only a full-fledged navigation device, while someone prefers a multifunctional gadget?
I don't use it, I borrow from a friend if I really need to go far. I don't use phone navigation at all: the screen is small, inconvenient to use, and if someone calls, everything gets messed up. Better to take a separate device, in my opinion.
Once my husband and I went to the Carpathians, we turned on navigation on our phone — and we suffered so much that words can't describe it. Either the signal disappears, or the GPS itself constantly glitches. Better to take a simple phone, for example MTS 236, — cheap and reliable, and a navigator separately. At least you'll get to the place and have a proper rest.
Well, I don't know... I have GPS navigation on my smartphone, and I use it all the time. True, my smartphone is only for the internet and navigation, and I picked a special tariff for it. Previously, everything was in one device. This situation often happened: you're driving by the navigator in a foreign city, then an incoming call comes in — and the navigation minimizes. You have to turn on the hazard lights and pull over. So either a separate navigator, or a smartphone, but not one that receives calls. By the way, what kind of device is this — MTS 236? A phone for 200 hryvnias? I thought there weren't any below 300. I should get one for my grandpa, because calling his village is a real problem.
This question, in my opinion, is very individual. It all depends on what a person does, where they live, and what their lifestyle is. Personally, I don't need navigation on my phone — there's a separate device for that, and besides, I use it very rarely. But a phone for 200 hryvnias is already interesting, I'm just looking for something as a second one for work. I don't really want to spend money on a dual-SIM.
To be honest, I don't understand this stuff. For me, a smartphone is a whole science, and I'm just too lazy to spend time figuring out all its functions. And GPS is something from the realm of fantasy for me.
Do navigators show the traveled route?
They should, I think. It's a basic function, and it would be strange if it weren't there. Although it's hard to imagine a car where you can't view the route traveled.
