Choosing a car Qashqai vs Laguna

December 11, 2009 · A discussion from the forum archive

I'll say right away: my driving experience is small — only a year, and I learned on a Lanos. Now the question of choosing a new car has arisen. The tasks are as follows: mostly city driving, in summer — the dacha, which means asphalt and about ten meters of dirt road. But our roads are uneven: somewhere normal, and somewhere like after a bombing, like my yard, for example. I've looked at two models — the Renault Laguna third generation and the Nissan Qashqai. I'd like to hear reasoned owner reviews, not advice like 'this car is better because I drive it.' I'm interested in handling, interior comfort, prices for spare parts and maintenance, and everything like that.
These two cars are hard to call similar. The Qashqai is a crossover with a fairly stiff suspension and high ground clearance, while the Laguna is a comfortable family hatchback or estate. Comparing them on specific characteristics is not easy. To make a final choice, it is worth test-driving both models.
On the Laguna, they don't let me drive where I want, and on smooth asphalt you don't feel anything, and they also scare with prices for parts and maintenance. So I want to know the opinion of owners
I have owned a Qashqai for two and a half years now. The car fully satisfies me, and during all this time no complaints have arisen. If you have any questions about this car — feel free to ask, I will gladly share my experience.
Okay, let's get straight to the point: how many times has it undergone maintenance and what did it cost? What should you look at when choosing? What makes sense to buy right away? What are the typical ailments? And how true is the talk about increased stiffness?
So, I've had the maintenance done only three times — at 15, 30, and 45 thousand kilometers. I don't remember the exact prices, but the last service cost about 1200 hryvnias. Any official dealer will give you current rates over the phone. Under warranty, there were three claims: they replaced the rear shock absorbers (they were knocking a lot), the fuel tank, and the front left suspension arm. However, the arm has recently started creaking again, so I'll be going to a service station soon to have it redone. The suspension is a bit stiff, especially at the rear, but it's not critical. After the warranty replacement of the shock absorbers, it became noticeably softer. I installed an alarm integrated into the chip key so I can lock the car with a button on the door — it's more convenient. Plus, I immediately installed window closers and engine protection, it's worth it. That's all. Over three years of use, no serious problems have arisen. The car is good, I'm satisfied. One more nuance: the rear window is quite small, but I solved this issue with a rearview camera — it's convenient to park with it. So if you have the option, get the top trim, it also reads MP3.
