Peugeot 2008: prices and specifications

3 generations Country of origin: France

The Peugeot 2008 is a compact crossover built on the platform of the 208 hatchback. In the hierarchy of the French brand, it sits below the 3008 model. The number "2008" in the name, according to Peugeot's new naming system, emphasizes its belonging to the crossover class.

The company first announced plans to produce a vehicle in this segment in 2011, when the Nissan Juke successfully launched on the market. Following the Japanese model, other manufacturers, including Peugeot, began to explore the niche of compact SUVs. The French took the recently released 208 hatchback as a base. Its platform was modified: the front and rear suspension elements were reinforced, and the body was made larger to give the car the appearance of a "grown-up" crossover in a reduced format. A concept car of the future model was first shown in spring 2012 in Beijing under the name Urban Crossover, which directly indicated its belonging to the class of urban compact SUVs.

A refined version of the concept was presented in autumn of the same year in Paris, and the production car debuted in 2013 at the Geneva Motor Show. From the "donor" 208 model, the crossover inherited not only chassis components but also a range of engines and transmissions. Externally, the car resembles the 208 (especially the shape of the headlights), but the body has become more muscular, and the ground clearance is higher than that of the hatchback. Inside, there is a lot of modern equipment, including a multimedia system with support for all common formats, navigation, and Bluetooth.

Deliveries of the crossover to Ukraine were planned to begin at the turn of 2013–2014. The model was expected to be equipped with naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines with displacements of 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, and 1.6 liters, as well as diesel engines with displacements of 1.4 and 1.6 liters. They could be paired with a five-speed manual or a six-speed automated manual transmission. Drive — only front-wheel drive.
