Hyundai i20: prices and specifications

5 generations Country of origin: South Korea

Hyundai i20 is a compact model that replaced the Getz. In the name, 'i' stands for 'inspiration', and the number '20' indicates that the model occupies the second step in Hyundai's hierarchy after the i10.

Development of the i20 began in 2006 after Hyundai management decided to discontinue the Getz. The design of the new model was created at the company's European Technical Center in Rüsselsheim, Germany. A new subcompact platform was also developed there, intended not only for Hyundai models but also for Kia A- and B-class cars. Prototypes underwent testing in Korea and the Czech Republic.

The Hyundai i20 was officially presented in 2008 at the Paris Motor Show. The model was produced in two body styles: a three-door and a five-door hatchback. Until 2011, the i20 was sold alongside the Getz — the company decided to gradually replace the model, considering the commercial success of its predecessor. In 2012, a facelift was carried out: the car received an updated exterior in a new corporate style, as well as modernized engines and transmissions.

On the Ukrainian market at the time of description, the pre-facelift version of the i20 was offered in two body types. The model was equipped with three petrol engines. The three-door version was powered by a 1.2-liter engine, while the five-door version had 1.4 and 1.6-liter engines. The 1.2 and 1.4 engines were paired with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. The version with the 1.6-liter engine was equipped with a six-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. Drive — front.
