Hyundai Azera is a sedan produced by Hyundai Motor Company. This model is an analogue of the Grandeur.
First generation (1986–1992)
In 1986, production of a licensed copy of the Mitsubishi Debonair, called the Grandeur, began at the Ulsan plant. The car was equipped with four-cylinder Japanese engines of 2.0 and 2.4 L, as well as a six-cylinder engine of 3.0 L. In 1989, the model underwent a facelift, and production continued until 1992.
Second generation (until 1998)
The second generation, like the first, was a licensed copy of the Mitsubishi Debonair, but of the next generation. Four-cylinder variants disappeared from the engine range — they were replaced by six-cylinder units of 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5 L. The most powerful engine produced 260 hp and was paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Production ended in 1998.
Third generation (1998)
With the third generation, the era of licensed copies ended. The 1998 Grandeur became Hyundai's own development. The cars were equipped with engines of 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 L, and from 2002 also a V6 3.5 L. There was only one transmission — a five-speed automatic.
Fourth generation (2005)
In 2005, a new Hyundai Grandeur model rolled off the assembly line, built on the basis of the Hyundai Sonata. In addition to gasoline engines, a diesel variant also appeared in the engine lineup. The engine displacement was 2.2, 2.4, 2.7, 3.3 and 3.8 L. The engines were paired with five- or six-speed automatic transmissions. It was in this generation that the model first received a second name — Azera.
Fifth generation (2011)
The fifth generation of the car was introduced in January 2011. Like its predecessor, the model has two names — Grandeur and Azera. It is built on the Hyundai Sonata YF platform. The lineup includes two gasoline engines of 2.4 L (180 hp) and 3.0 L (250 hp). The transmission is a six-speed automatic. In Ukraine, the Hyundai Azera has been sold by independent dealers since 2012.
