Fiat Linea: model overview

Fiat Linea is a mid-size budget sedan that replaced the Marea model. The car's name comes from the Latin word Linea, which translates to "line" or "stroke."

The decision to create this model was made by the Fiat concern as part of a strategy to produce an affordable car for developing countries. The design was developed by specialists from the Centro Stile studio. The main work on the technical part was carried out by Italian engineers, and at the final stage, Turkish specialists joined them. This was due to the fact that the main production of the model was decided to be set up in Turkey. Later, semi-knocked-down assembly of the car was organized in Brazil, China, India, and Russia. The first test prototypes appeared in 2006 and were tested on roads in Turkey and China. The platform for the new model was taken from the Fiat Grande Punto. Inexpensive materials were used in the interior to minimize the cost of the car. At the same time, emphasis was placed on practicality — for example, the trunk volume of one of the prototypes was 500 liters, which was one of the best indicators in its class.

The official debut of the model took place in 2007 in Turkey. The car was offered with gasoline engines of 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, and 1.9 liters, as well as diesel engines of 1.3 and 1.6 liters. In 2011, the model underwent a facelift that affected the design of the front and rear parts of the body. The interior featured an updated center console and instrument panel. Starting in 2013, production of the Fiat Linea was established in Russia, from where cars were supplied to CIS countries.

On the Ukrainian market at the time of writing, the pre-facelift version of the model was available. It was equipped with three engines: two gasoline engines of 1.4 and 1.6 liters, and one diesel engine of 1.3 liters with the Multijet system. The engines were paired with a five-speed manual transmission or a Dualogic robotic gearbox. The car has front-wheel drive.
