Citroen C4 Cactus

Under the hood of the diesel version of the Citroen C4 Cactus is a 1.6-liter HDi engine with an output of 92 horsepower. The outwardly modest power is backed by a serious torque of 230 Nm, which is already available at 1750 rpm.

On the Ukrainian market, the "Cactus" with a diesel engine is offered exclusively with a 6-speed "robot". This gearbox is not known for its quick responses, but its drawbacks are offset by efficiency: even in urban conditions, the car fits within 4 liters of fuel per hundred kilometers.

The starting promotional price for the Citroen C4 Cactus HDi is 454,100 hryvnias for the initial Feel version, which includes a necessary set of options: air conditioning, heated seats, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, and more.

Kia Sportage

Unlike the "Cactus", the Kia Sportage has every right to be called a crossover: it has versions with all-wheel drive and a higher ground clearance of 182 mm. True, such options no longer fit into our budget.

Only the base modification of the diesel Sportage fit within the limit of five hundred thousand hryvnias. It is equipped with a modest 1.7 CRDi unit with an output of 115 hp and 260 Nm, working in tandem with a six-speed manual. The front-wheel-drive crossover consumes 5.7 liters per 100 km in the city.

For 592,140 hryvnias, the Sportage in the Comfort trim is available with a fairly extensive list of equipment: climate control, light and rain sensors, heating for all seats, and other options.

Nissan Qashqai

The current generation of the Nissan Qashqai underwent a major update at the beginning of spring, but refreshed crossovers have not yet reached Ukrainian dealers. However, pre-facelift examples attract attention with discounts. It is thanks to the sale that the diesel version managed to make it into our list.

Only the front-wheel-drive version with a 130-horsepower dCi engine and an impressive torque of 320 Nm fit within the specified price range. A CVT is provided for such cars. The combination of engine and transmission provides fuel consumption of only 5.3 l/100 km in the city.

The promotional price for the diesel Qashqai in the SE trim, which is not the base one, starts from 626,280 hryvnias. The equipment includes almost everything needed, except for keyless entry and a rear-view camera.

Renault Kadjar

The French sibling of the "Qashqai" with a more expressive design from Renault appeared on the domestic market last year. The Kadjar made it into our top five thanks to discounts on 2016 model year cars.

Unlike its Japanese "relative", the diesel Kadjar has a less powerful 1.5-liter unit under the hood, producing 110 hp and 250 Nm. The front-wheel-drive version with a manual gearbox is almost as efficient as the "CVT" Nissan in terms of fuel consumption.

Promotional prices for last year's "Kadjars" start from 620,376 hryvnias. For this amount, a well-equipped Zen trim is offered: it includes keyless entry, as well as front and rear parking sensors.

SsangYong Tivoli XLV

The newest model in this list appeared at dealers in mid-summer. The extended Tivoli XLV is offered only with front-wheel drive, and differs from the short-wheelbase version by a noticeably larger trunk and more generous equipment — 18-inch wheels and a sunroof.

The diesel version of the Tivoli XLV is equipped with a 1.6-liter engine with a power of 115 hp and a torque of exactly 300 Nm. In urban mode, the car with a manual gearbox consumes 5.4 liters.

All trims of the crossover (from 610,900 hryvnias) fit within our price limit, except for versions with automatic gearboxes — they cost from 645,900 hryvnias.
